Motherland (2022) Film

Abstract

“Motherland” is a short dance film about Russian artist and performer: Maksim Avdeev, who is trying to find a place of peace and sense of home. Who is questioning his relation to his own roots.

Leaving his country to escape a suppressive state, to live his own free sexuality. To escape political homophobia, which had been taking away the fundamental rights to dignity, health, education, information, and association through Rusia’s “gay propaganda” law.

Putin’s brutal attack on humanity, the invasion of Ukraine leaves him to question his relationship with his homeland even more. Questioning his original identity, his roots. His relation to his motherland.
